Glenview moves to map‑based downtown parking rules to free up short‑term spots for businesses

Director Brady presented a map‑based overhaul of parking regulations for Downtown Glenview and the Glentown Center on Oct. 21, intended to simplify enforcement, preserve short‑term spaces for customers and move commuters to designated commuter lots.
Under the plan most existing 1‑hour and 3‑hour restrictions would be consolidated to 2‑hour parking from 8 a.m. to noon; two 30‑minute stalls were proposed at Navy Boulevard and Tower to serve a deli/carryout business. The proposal converts about 40 commuter spaces on the west side of Railroad Avenue to downtown visitor stalls (available after about 11 a.m. when metro commuter spaces free up) and includes sidewalk and signal improvements tied to the broader downtown plan.
Trustees asked how the village will enforce changes and where employees should park; Brady said public‑safety parking enforcement will monitor the commuter lots in the 8 a.m.–noon window, staff will continue outreach with new and existing businesses, and minor map adjustments can be made by staff while major changes will return to the board. Trustee Jones and others requested additional targeted outreach with businesses near Glenview Road and Dews Court; Brady said staff will follow up and is studying angled or on‑street additions in some areas.
The board approved the parking regulation updates; the new map and signage are slated to take effect Jan. 1, preceded by an education period for commuters, businesses and visitors.
