Glenview swears in Mark Chesla as new police chief

Mark Chesla was sworn in Sept. 16 as Glenview's new chief of police, taking over leadership of a department his predecessor, Chief William Fitzpatrick, led for 25 years.
President Jenny administered the oath immediately after announcing Fitzpatrick's retirement and said the village will formally recognize Fitzpatrick at the board's Oct. 7 meeting. "Please join me in welcoming Glenview's new chief of police, Mark Chesla," Jenny said before the ceremony.
Chesla, who has worked in the Glenview Police Department since 2004 and served as deputy chief in 2024, told the board and community he was "incredibly lucky to work with and be mentored by the finest officers in this country" and called it "an honor to stand here today as Glenview's new chief of police." He pledged to "support our officers, strengthen our partnerships with schools and local organizations, and invest in programs that bring us closer" to residents.
The board noted Chesla is the fourth police chief in Glenview's 125-year history and welcomed him as the department moves forward. The swearing-in followed the board's regular business and was part of President Jenny's report to trustees.
No formal action beyond the oath occurred; Fitzpatrick's recognition remains scheduled for Oct. 7.
