Pueblo West aims to finalize indoor pool design scope with Ascensa; board warned not to rush contract

Carol Cosby, director of Parks and Recreation, told the board Dec. 5 that staff were negotiating final scope and fees with Ascensa (architect/consultant) for the indoor pool design at Site 2 (Assembly and McCulloch Boulevard). Cosby said the firm’s prior proposal inadvertently excluded AV/IT, IECC lighting commissioning, and FF&E and that staff requested those items be included. "We want to make sure we're all on the same page before we sign any agreement," Cosby said.

Staff also said a site-specific geotechnical report and a site survey must be included for detailed design. Board members and staff discussed permit and construction-administration roles, clarifying which elements Ascensa will perform and which project-development staff will manage. Because holidays and consultant schedules slowed finalization, staff said they would submit an updated scope to the Monday board packet if it was complete; otherwise they would remove the action item from Monday and bring it to the first January meeting to avoid an incomplete authorization.

Board members requested highlighted changes be presented in the packet so the board can see any scope and cost differences from the prior concept work; staff agreed. No contract was approved at the work session; staff said they will finalize scopes and return with the contract once both sides agree to a complete scope of services.
