Council recognizes 2026 calendar artists, confirms appointments and adopts consent agenda

At its Dec. 3 meeting the Grand Junction City Council recognized the artists whose work will appear in the 2026 city calendar and invited them forward for a photograph and thanks.
Hannah Key introduced the calendar and said 14 artists were selected from more than 500 submissions; the publication will include a mayoral letter, a review of 2025 city projects, service directories and meeting dates, and will be mailed to roughly 50,000 residents. "The calendar also serves as a visual reminder of the places, people, and moments that make our city a welcoming and inspiring place to live," Key said.
Council also handled routine business. The council ratified the appointment of Burke Martin to the Mesa County Building Code Board of Appeals (term expiring 12/31/2028) and appointed Annaquatch Burnham to the Urban Trails Committee for a partial term ending 06/30/2026; both motions passed 6-0. The council adopted consent agenda items numbered 1 through 3 by voice vote.
In other ceremonial business, city manager Mike Bennett and colleagues recognized City Attorney John Shaver for more than 35 years of service and read a proclamation designating Dec. 3, 2025 as John Shaver Day.
