Council approves voluntary annexation so property can connect to sewer

Southern Pines council on Feb. 11 adopted ordinance AX‑03‑24 approving voluntary annexation of a parcel at the corner of Southwest Broad Street and Henson Street so the property can connect to town sanitary sewer.
BJ Grebe, speaking for the town, said the subject property is on septic and wants to connect to the existing sewer main adjacent to the parcel. "There is a parcel located at the corner of Southwest Broad Street and Henson Street...they would like to connect because ... in order to connect, they need to annex," Grebe said.
Council moved to adopt the annexation ordinance; after a second the motion carried with no recorded opposition and the ordinance took effect immediately. Town staff said the parcel is contiguous to already‑annexed town property and that sewer infrastructure and street water exist near the site.
The council did not record any conditions beyond standard annexation procedures.
