Council approves assignment of Grand Mesa antenna lease from Gray Media to Scripps Media

The City Council unanimously approved an ordinance on Nov. 19 authorizing the assignment of a lease covering city-owned property on Grand Mesa from Gray Media (formerly a Pikes Peak Television interest) to Scripps Media.
City Attorney John Shaver presented the ordinance (52-84), describing it as a housekeeping matter required by the transaction. "The transfer is in accordance with the existing lease, and the terms are not changing," Shaver said, identifying the annual rent as roughly $5,000 per year plus an escalator.
No members of the public spoke during the public hearing. Council member Van Dyke moved adoption, Council member Ballard seconded, and the clerk called the roll; Council members Ballard, Bialfuss, Lutz, Van Dyke and Mayor Kennedy recorded yes votes and the ordinance passed 5-0.
Shaver noted the lease supports longstanding radio and television translator antennas on city property and that the proposed substitution reflects Gray's sale of certain station holdings to Scripps.
The ordinance was approved on final passage and ordered for publication in pamphlet form.
