Planning Commission elects Sandra Weckerdorf as temporary chair

The City of Grand Junction Planning Commission elected Sandra Weckerdorf as its temporary chair on Oct. 14, 2025, in a voice vote reported as 4–2. Commissioners debated whether to postpone the vote until new members are seated, but supporters said appointing a chair now ensures the city can respond quickly to any zoning board of appeals matters that arise.

Commissioners discussed options for nominations and whether the vice chair should assume both roles if the vice chair is selected as chair. After nominations for Sandra Weckerdorf and another candidate, the commission voted and the chair announced, “So Sandra is our next temporary chair.” The commission noted that the routine May election process will resume next year and this appointment is intended to fill duties in the near term, including representing the commission on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

The commission immediately moved to the consent agenda and then continued with the evening’s public hearings under the new chair. No formal changes to commission membership or permanent appointments were made; the temporary appointment carries through until the regular selection process in May unless the commission elects otherwise.
