Centennial approves transit‑shelter agreement with Lamar to restore benches and shelters

The City Council on Dec. 2 approved a transit‑stop furniture program agreement with Lamar Transit, LLC (Resolution 2025‑R‑60) to replace shelters and benches that had been removed during a vendor transition.

Public Works manager Michael Nelson said the procurement selected Lamar for its ability to deploy rapidly and cost‑effectively. "There are actually about 50 locations identified where the previous shelters were removed," Nelson said; the initial deployment will prioritize existing concrete pads to accelerate installation. Under the initial term the city will fund 20 shelters and Lamar is committing to fund an additional 20; the contract also allows for 10 temporary benches to be deployed quickly while shelters are manufactured.

Nelson said funding was budgeted in 2024 for 2025–26 and the agreement includes a revenue‑share structure that returns 5% of advertising revenue to the city in year one and higher percentages in renewal options. Lamar will perform periodic shelter maintenance and staff will continue sidewalk snow removal adjacent to stops. Council asked about maintenance, placement priorities and city control of location selection; staff confirmed the city can choose where to place or withhold installations among identified pads.

Mayor Pro Tem Sutherland moved approval; the motion carried 7–0.

What happens next: Deployment is slated to begin in 2026, starting at priority locations with an initial mix of permanent shelters and temporary benches; staff will oversee location selection and enforcement of maintenance terms.
