Ames City Council approves several project actions, continues lease hearing to Nov. 25
Summary

The Ames City Council approved a series of routine and project-specific actions during its meeting, including bid acceptance for a crossing improvement, rejection of a submitted bid for a power-plant load center, property conveyances and zoning updates.
On the Homewood Golf Course Hole 9 crossing improvement project the council reopened the public hearing, heard no public comment, and moved to accept the reported bids for contract consideration.
On the load center placement at the power plant, council members opened and closed the hearing, then voted to reject the bid as submitted and directed staff to modify the project plans before rebidding.
The council approved a resolution to vacate a city alley at 325 Ash Avenue and transfer it by quitclaim deed to the Alpha Iota Association of Phi Gamma Delta for no additional consideration. The council also approved vacating an existing electric easement at 1411 South Grand Avenue after a brief hearing with no public speakers.
In zoning business, council moved a text amendment on second reading to change material standards for off-street parking and driveways for agricultural equipment in the Research Park Innovation District; the motion passed on roll call.
On land use and leasing, the council considered a lease of city property (Lot 3 of Billy Sunday Subdivision) to Lamar Advertising Company and voted to continue the public hearing to Nov. 25 for further consideration. The council also reviewed several communications and requested staff memos on parking on Ross Road, renaming Center Avenue to Chantlin Avenue, and other citizen requests.
What happens next: Staff will proceed with contract/bid follow-up, revise the power-plant project as directed, process the alley and easement conveyances, and schedule the continued lease hearing on Nov. 25.
