CPD reports year-to-date drops in homicide, shootings and robberies; chief credits task forces and community partnerships

Chief Angel Obalas, identifying himself as the CPD chief of constitutional policing and reform, told the board that ‘‘so far this year, we've seen a 24% reduction in murders’’ and that shootings and robbery numbers are also down compared with 2024. He reported ‘‘about 32% fewer shootings’’ and said the city is seeing ‘‘more than 1,100 fewer robberies,’’ presenting the improvements as the result of coordinated efforts by the Bureau of Detectives, Bureau of Patrol and Bureau of Counterterrorism.
Obalas also briefed the board on recent recognition events and the Saint Jude Memorial March, saying officers and gold star families attended National Police Week activities in Washington, D.C. He asked residents and community partners to continue cooperating with police efforts to sustain the reductions.
The chief framed the statistics as progress while acknowledging there is more work to do. No new operational changes or specific resource reallocations were announced at the meeting.
