CPD highlights summer events response and a new transit operations center

First Deputy Superintendent Yolanda Talley reported to the Chicago Police Board on the department's summer public-safety operations, saying officers staffed major July Fourth events — including the NASCAR street race and Pride events — and that CPD is preparing for Lollapalooza, the Air and Water Show, and the Bud Billiken parade. Talley thanked officers for working through heat and canceled days off to keep large events safe.
Talley described a newly unveiled public transportation Strategic Decision Support Center (SDSC) focused on CTA safety. "This new room now has detectives from the robbery task force embedded into the space alongside SDSC room officers," she said, explaining the center can monitor the transit system in real time and relay information to field officers and detectives to strengthen collaboration across bureaus and CTA security.
Talley said the effort is intended to prevent and address transit crime and to improve victim services and investigative coordination.
