Police Board affirms, reverses and dismisses several applicant appeals in unanimous vote

The Chicago Police Board on Oct. 16 took final action on a set of appeals by applicants who had been disqualified from eligibility to become Chicago police officers.
President Kyle Cooper moved the package of decisions. The board voted to affirm disqualification for appeals numbered 25AA10, 25AA11 and 25AA12; to reverse disqualification for appeals 25AA08 and 25AA13; and to dismiss appeal 25AA27 because it was filed after the 60-day deadline set by the Municipal Code of Chicago. The chair said written decisions will be entered as of today's date, sent to the parties and promptly posted on the Police Board's website.
Cooper also updated the board on pending arbitration litigation before the Illinois Supreme Court: the Fraternal Order of Police has petitioned to appeal an appellate decision that required public arbitration proceedings for the most serious misconduct cases. As a result of the litigation, Cooper said 21 Police Board cases remain on hold; five cases are moving forward (three because the accused officers are supervisors who are not FOP members and two because the officers selected Police Board proceedings).
The board's recorded roll call during the motion indicated unanimous approval of the appeals package.
The board did not take further action on disciplinary cases at this meeting; Cooper encouraged the public to consult the Police Board website for updated minutes and decisions.
