Appearance Commission honors 10 properties in annual Sprucing Up Southern Pines awards

At the start of its meeting the council paused to hear the Appearance Commission's Sprucing Up Southern Pines awards. Commissioner Cynthia Gaudi and commission members presented 10 winners — six residential and four commercial — who were recognized for property improvements, landscaping, and other exterior enhancements that boost the town's visual character.
Gaudi read winners' addresses and nominees (examples included 105 E Vermont Ave, 360 Midland Rd, 920 W Iowa, 420 S Ash St, 280 E Indiana Ave, 760 S Ash St for residences; and commercial winners including 600 SW Broad St, Taglio's, and Southern Prime at 270 S Broad St). Winners receive a temporary yard sign to display for about six weeks and were invited to pose for a photograph with commission members.
Mayor and council members thanked the commission for its year-round efforts to maintain the town's visual character.
