Laguna Vista resident tells commissioners proposed Cordova extension would bisect neighborhood

During public comments at the Aug. 5 Commissioners Court meeting, Neli Watson, who said she has lived at 376 Laguna Vista Drive for 42 years, told the court her neighborhood faces a proposed road project the city calls the Cordova Extension.
Watson described Laguna Vista as a 39‑home community with small‑town character and said a planned lateral arterial — described in testimony as a 3‑ to 5‑lane connector between US‑46 and I‑10 — would run through nearby ranchland and her subdivision, increase traffic and speed through the neighborhood, and exacerbate existing flooding from upstream developments. She said the city will not take action to divert water and that county officials have developed a drainage plan but need help to stop the extension from being placed on local plans.
"We are in a crisis, and we need you to help us now," Watson said, asking the court to oppose the Cordova Extension and to prevent the city from putting the road through Laguna Vista. She told the court the project threatens trees and the homestead her family has maintained for decades.
The presiding Judge thanked her for speaking and noted county staff have been working on drainage enhancements. Watson said she understood the city would remove the project from its plan only if the county agreed to remove it from county planning documents — a point she urged commissioners to consider.
The court did not take action on the Cordova Extension at the meeting; Watson’s comments were recorded during the public‑comment portion of the agenda.
