The Lake County Law & Judicial Committee on Jan. 6 approved an emergency appropriation of $8,200 from Fund 250 fund balance to cover benefit expenses for the 19th Judicial Circuit's children's waiting room.
Regina Tuzak, the court system’s chief financial officer, told the committee that year‑end payroll and benefits closeout revealed two factors that increased costs: a position that was vacant when the budget was prepared was subsequently filled, and an employee who had elected to opt out of benefits later chose to enroll. Tuzak said those two changes caused benefits expense to exceed the FY25 budgeted amount and justified the emergency appropriation request. She also noted a scrivener error in the account number (74010 should be 74080) and the chair confirmed the correction.
The committee approved the appropriation by voice vote; no members opposed.
