The Effingham County board handled routine business items including the consent agenda, approval of several 2026 committee meeting schedules, and a request to cancel insurance on an excess county vehicle.
On the consent agenda (approved by motion from Doug McCain, seconded by Norbert Saltwheedle), the board approved minutes (except monthly reports), the FY 2026 county employee handbook, appointments to the Island Grove Drainage District and ambulance oversight committee, motor fuel tax and township bridge fund audit reports, a resolution to award material letting to the lowest responsible bidder, and a $15,000 disbursement to Effingham County Senior Services.
Separately, the transportation committee asked the board to approve canceling insurance on an excess vehicle in FPM County Public Transportation possession because the department is finalizing disposal. Jeremy Daters explained the vehicle had been carried on insurance while awaiting final signatures and asked the board to cease coverage; the motion passed.
The board also approved 2026 meeting schedules for the economic development advisory board, reports committee, public safety committee, Capital Improvement Committee and the county board as a whole; each item passed by voice vote.
