Council installs new members, elects Scott Lordson as president and approves daycare plat

At the start of the meeting the council conducted ceremonial and organizational business including oaths and appointments. Gerald Cullumber took the oath of office as mayor and thanked the outgoing mayor and city staff for support; speakers also presented a commemorative gavel recognizing Mayor Casey Cimino's service from 2018 through 2025.

Jay King and Peter Wentz were sworn in as council members. Each repeated the oath of office to support the United States and Kansas constitutions and to discharge the duties of their positions.

Councilors nominated Scott Lordson to continue as council president; a motion to approve Lordson as council president was seconded and adopted by voice vote.

The council approved a staff recommendation to appoint Peter Wentz as Baldwin City's representative to the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) policy board. The MPO seat carries periodic voting rights and involves regional transportation and planning matters for Douglas County; staff noted the seat typically meets quarterly over Zoom.

On land‑use business, the council approved the final plat for a daycare facility located off Ridge Lane and North 400 Road after staff reported the plat met planning requirements and had Planning Commission approval. Council members noted the community needs daycare capacity and expressed support for timely project moving forward.

The meeting closed with committee briefings, grant updates and the scheduling of follow‑up items; there was no executive session and the council adjourned.
