TPWD to propose transferring Twin Lakes Park to Williamson County with condition to remain a public park

Stan David of TPWD’s Land Conservation Program presented a proposed disposition of approximately 56 acres at Twin Lakes Park in Cedar Park, Williamson County. TPWD said the property was transferred from TxDOT to TPWD in two parcels (about 50 acres in 1994 and an additional 6 acres in 2012) with the prior legislative direction that the agency allow Williamson County to operate the property as a park. For 30 years the park has been jointly operated by Williamson County and the YMCA and includes picnic pavilions, a swimming pool and playscape, sports fields, an archery range, beach swimming area, sand volleyball, ropes course and outdoor education space, TPWD said.
TPWD staff recommended transferring full ownership to Williamson County to reduce TPWD’s operational oversight while preserving services and amenities; the staff presentation said Williamson County would be required as a condition of transfer to continue operating the property as a public park. Five public comments were received in support, the staff slide deck said. David asked the commission to place the disposition item on the Thursday meeting agenda for public comment and action.
No final transfer was completed during the work session; staff requested the commission consider the matter at the Thursday meeting.
