County accepts $100,000 Gary Community Ventures award for benefits outreach; first payment to follow signature

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners on May 20 approved acceptance of a Gary Community Ventures grant to human services intended to increase utilization of public benefits, particularly SNAP and the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP).
Deputy director of strategic initiatives Kristen Logan, participating remotely, told the board the award is $50,000 per year for two years (total $100,000) with no matching requirement. Staff said the funds will support staff time for outreach and supportive salaries for teams working on SNAP and CCAP uptake, and will fund community-facing outreach activities to center the project on resident feedback.
Logan said the agreement had been reviewed by county counsel. Commissioners discussed the grant signature block and agreed to add Commissioner Lee’s name to the signature line to provide an explicit county-authorized signature for the grant. Once the signature block is updated, staff said the foundation indicated an initial payment of $50,000 could be expected within approximately 21 days.
The board approved the grant acceptance and directed staff to finalize the signature block and execute the agreement.

Human services staff will return a signed agreement to the foundation and begin using the grant to fund outreach and staff time to increase SNAP and CCAP enrollment and utilization in Lake County.
