Council approves water-main extension to MST site; company to install main and services to curb
Summary
The town approved a water-main extension to serve the new Material Sampling Technologies facility on Central Street. MST will install the main and services to the curb, opening the possibility for 14 neighboring lots to connect in the future; residents would pay the house-to-curb connection later.

William DeCoteau, superintendent of Water & Sewer, asked the town council to approve a water-main extension from Mechanic Street to the Material Sampling Technologies (MST) site on Central Street. DeCoteau told the council the extension would bring water to 14 lots and "enhance the fire protection in that area." He noted the line runs in a corridor that was previously extended because of contaminated wells in other parts of the town, and said the wells in the immediate vicinity were not known to be contaminated.
Council members asked whether neighboring residents would be charged for hookups. DeCoteau said MST would pay the bulk cost of installing the main and services to the curb; residents who choose to connect later would pay the house-to-curb portion. He added that the building planned for MST would be a workplace with about 12 employees and an estimated daily water usage "probably about 5,000 gallons per day," and said the company expects to connect to both water and sewer if approved.
Councilors also asked about road restoration. DeCoteau said the developer would be responsible for curb-to-curb resurfacing along the town road portion of the route.
A councilor moved to approve the water-main extension; the motion received a second and passed on roll-call votes recorded in the meeting transcript.
Ending: With council approval, MST may proceed to the planning-permit stage; Water & Sewer staff will coordinate service drops to properties along the extension and confirm restoration details as work is scheduled.
