Sunset swears in two new police officers; chief outlines rising call volume

The Sunset City Council administered the oath of office Jan. 7 to two new police officers, Brady Davis and Susha McPherson.
Police Chief Jameson introduced Brady Davis, noting Davis had worked for the city about two and a half years in code enforcement and recently completed POST training; Davis’s badge was to be pinned by his wife, Rebecca. Chief Jameson also introduced Susha McPherson, saying she brings limited prior law-enforcement experience but additional language skills; Jameson noted McPherson speaks Russian and that her family adopted her from Russia at age 15.
Chief Jameson used the occasion to summarize department workload and staffing. “We ended up with 13,049 cases,” he said, describing a year-over-year increase in calls and adding that the department has been operating with vacancies and is in the process of hiring. The chief said the department has promotional testing under way, personnel attending paramedic school, and plans to reach full staffing for 2025.
The council greeted the new officers and thanked department staff. The oath was administered publicly; no formal vote was required for the ceremonial swearing-in. City staff said the officers will enter field duties following training and orientation.
Chief Jameson also noted an outstanding personnel matter involving a former officer; he said additional information will be provided to council members when appropriate.
