Sunset City councilmembers set the dates for the city’s annual Celebrate Fun Days event for July 11–12, 2025 following a work-session discussion about scheduling conflicts with other events and holidays.
Staff member Jason led the discussion about possible dates. Some councilmembers raised concerns about holding the event on Father’s Day weekend, the proximity of Juneteenth (a city holiday on Thursday that year) and overlapping events in neighboring cities that could affect vendor and car-show participation. After comparing options in June, July and August and checking neighboring-city schedules, the council settled on July 11–12 to avoid direct overlap with those events and to give more lead time for planning.
Councilmembers discussed logistics including vendor recruitment, potential sites (the council referenced past use of Runyon Park and issues with site availability), and the role of volunteers and partners. Staff and council members were asked to start vendor outreach and logistical planning immediately so permits, awards and other event elements can be secured.
The council directed staff and the event committee to proceed with planning for July 11–12 and to coordinate with nearby cities and community groups to maximize vendor and attendee participation.
