Osage County approves two bridge contracts after low bids from Ohlmeyer

The Osage County Commission voted Dec. 16 to award contracts for two county bridge projects to Ohlmeyer Construction after bids came in well below engineer estimates.
Public works staff reviewed bids for two bridges described in the meeting materials as Bridge 390 (KDOT project ID noted in the packet) and the second identified as the "280 Fifth / Davis Road" or Box Bridge (220). At the meeting a county staff member summarized the engineer estimate and low bids: "The engineer estimates came in at $5.63 [million] / $8.41 [million]. Brian Ohlmeyer bid $3.68 / $7.56," remarks in the public record show.
The commission then moved and seconded a motion to approve proceeding with Ohlmeyer Construction on both bridge projects. The motion passed on a voice vote: "All in favor? Aye...Motion carries," the clerk recorded.
County staff said construction windows and detailed start dates will be coordinated with the contractor and the county service department ahead of work. The board did not attach additional conditions in the public motion recorded in the minutes.
