County officials reviewed publicly available U.S. federal CHIPS (CHIPS and Science Act) funding updates and a map of preliminary terms (PNTs) and awards, and discussed how the awards so far do not show many Midwest recipients.
A staff member walked commissioners through the federal website listing PNTs and awards, noting clusters of awards in California, New York and other states and large gaps in the central Midwest. The presenter said Coffey County’s application for PMT support has been submitted and is still under consideration; “there hasn’t been a it’s not been approved or declined,” the speaker said.
County presenters encouraged local outreach to elected federal officials so Coffey County’s application receives attention in Washington, D.C. The presenter also noted that map displays of awards and proposed funding are publicly available on the CHIPS portal and suggested commissioners and staff review those pages for updates.
Ending: Staff said they will continue to monitor the CHIPS funding portal and report updates; commissioners were encouraged to engage congressional representatives and to use the portal’s public data to track PMT awards and proposed funding in nearby states.
