Superintendent honors Greeley West business students and recognizes School Board Month

GREELEY, Colo. — At Monday’s Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Deirdre Pilch recognized students from Greeley West High School who scored in the top 10% nationally on exams administered through the High School of Business program, and the Council of Student Representatives read a School Board Recognition Month proclamation.
Pilch introduced Julie Ratcliffe, a Greeley West business instructor, and students Alana Hill and Raymundo (Ray) Ocampo Flores, who were honored for placing in the top 10% nationally on business examinations. “Alana and Ray, for along with some of their other classmates for the second year in a row have scored in the top 10% in the national exam for the high school of business,” Pilch said.
Alana Hill told the board the course has given her confidence and standing in college‑credit weighting; Raymundo Ocampo Flores said the classes helped him develop 21st‑century skills and aided his qualification for DECA state competitions.
Pilch also listed additional Greeley West students who placed in national exams: Grace Ader and Ian Abdi (leadership), Grace Ader, Blake Steinmetz and Jason Vasquez (wealth management), and others in the program who scored in the top 10%.
The superintendent’s second honor was recognition of the elected board members during National School Board Recognition Month. Timothy Longacre, president of the Council of Student Representatives, read a proclamation thanking the board for volunteer service and leadership. “I, Timothy Longacre… do hereby declare my appreciation to the members of the board of education of Greeley Evans School District 6, and support the month of January 2025 as school board recognition month in District 6,” Longacre read.
Pilch also announced several community events: a community celebration honoring Pilch as Superintendent of the Year the following evening at Zoey’s Event Center at 4:30 p.m., a music department fundraiser on Jan. 17 at Chipper Lanes, and a District 6 Career Readiness Conference for juniors on Feb. 7 at Aims Community College.
