Commission approves minutes, discusses vacancies and election schedule

The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission approved the minutes of its Dec. 10, 2024 meeting and discussed several administrative items on Jan. 14, including commissioner resignations, vacancies on advisory panels, and the timing of upcoming elections.
Commissioners Matt, McKenna and Megan voted to approve the Dec. 10 minutes (recorded as a 3-0 vote among those eligible to vote because only three of the five attendees from that meeting were present). "I would move that we approve the minutes of 12/10/2024," a commissioner said; the motion was seconded and approved by the three commissioners present who had attended that earlier meeting.
Director items: staff said Commissioner Cook has resigned from the planning commission and that a seat (and other vacancies on development-review committees) will need to be filled. Staff described the general-plan advisory board role: it includes several planning-commission members and community members, meets roughly every couple of months, reviews outreach materials and provides early feedback on the general-plan update. Staff asked for a volunteer from the commission to serve on that advisory board; Commissioner Ross (as recorded in the audio) agreed to participate and said he will begin receiving email updates and outreach materials.
Staff also said the Jan. 28 meeting will be canceled because there are no public hearings scheduled. Regarding leadership, the commission discussed the vice-chair vacancy created after a recent chair succession; staff explained the relevant language in the development code for chair and vice-chair succession and terms: annual organizational elections occur in March, chairs and vice chairs serve one-year terms and are limited to two consecutive terms, and if a chair leaves mid-term the vice chair succeeds to chair with a vice-chair election to follow at the next regular meeting.
Staff indicated the commission must notice a vice-chair election and that the election will occur at the commission’s next regular meeting (scheduled in February), followed by the regular March organizational election. Staff also said Summit County Council had received multiple applications to fill recent vacancies and expected to conduct interviews and appointments in the coming weeks; staff noted new commissioners often join shortly after the council’s interviews.
The meeting adjourned after a motion to adjourn passed by voice vote.
