The Middleton City Council approved three separate procurement and licensing items: a purchase order for fencing at the trolley station, a purchase order to paint the trolley station exterior, and authorization of a new beer-and-wine alcohol license for the Maverick.
Council authorized a purchase order with Butte Fence Inc. for fencing at the trolley station in an amount not to exceed $10,265.13. Council discussion focused on the limited fencing footprint (from the bridge area past landscaping to the sidewalk and near the pylon sign) intended to slow small children from running toward Highway 44; council members noted the fence cannot secure the entire property because of a canal and other constraints. Funding for the fence will be provided by a private seller/donor (identified in the discussion as “the first seller”); the measure passed 3–1.
The council also authorized a purchase order with Big D’s Painting for the trolley station exterior in an amount not to exceed $14,319. Presenters said the work will use paint closely matching the existing cream/white color and retain the current darker-brown doors; the Middleton Historic Society had been consulted in the past about the building’s color. The motion carried on a voice vote.
On licensing, the council approved a new beer-and-wine alcohol license for Maverick. Staff explained the city’s licensure limits for liquor-by-the-drink: the city is allowed eight such licenses in total, with three already in use and five remaining; beer-and-wine licenses are not subject to that same numerical limit, per staff remarks recorded in the meeting. The council approved the Maverick license by voice vote.
