U.N. reports expanded mine action and cross‑border food deliveries into northwest Syria

The U.N. said humanitarian partners are scaling up mine‑action work in parts of Syria where hostilities have subsided and where contamination from explosives remains high.
Officials reported identification of 38 minefields and other contaminated areas across Idlib, Aleppo, Hama, Deir ez‑Zor and Latakia, and said partners had destroyed more than 1,400 items of unexploded ordnance during the reporting period. The spokesperson said nearly a third of recorded deaths and injuries from explosive remnants since December involved children; agricultural workers were also heavily affected.
Separately, the U.N. said cross‑border food deliveries have continued: over the weekend, 40 trucks carried nearly 11,000 metric tons of WFP food aid from Türkiye to Idlib via the Bab al‑Hawa crossing, a volume the U.N. said could assist roughly 270,000 people. Humanitarian imports from Jordan have also increased since the start of 2025, officials said.
The U.N. emphasized continued mine‑action and aid‑delivery efforts as operations expand into newly accessible areas.
