Taylor City Council on Feb. 13 received the first reading of Ordinance No. 2025-06, which would add recently annexed property to a single-member city council district.
Carly, a city staff member standing in for Scott Dunlap, Director of Development Services, said the parcel is adjacent to two council districts and staff recommended assigning the industrial-use property to District 2 because that district contains the most industrial uses. "We recommend approval of 2025–O–6 as presented," Carly said in the introduction.
City Attorney Mary Mitchell read the ordinance caption: "Ordinance number 2025Dash06. An ordinance of the city council, the city of Taylor, Texas approving the addition of recently annexed territory to single member city council district and providing for an effective date." The presentation was clearly an introduction; staff said the formal public hearing and final action will occur at the next council meeting and no vote was taken on adoption tonight.
Next steps: the ordinance will return for public hearing and final council action at the next scheduled meeting.
