The Select Board granted conditional approval for three Class 1 dealer licenses tied to Asbury Automotive Group’s pending acquisition of Herb Chambers dealerships in Westborough.
Devon Bodie, counsel for Asbury, said the company is acquiring multiple Chambers dealerships and seeks to ensure licenses are in place so operations and jobs continue after closing. The board reviewed site plan parking conditions for the Ford (310 Turnpike Road), Infiniti (312 Turnpike Road) and Lincoln (75 Otis Street) locations and attached conditions limiting counts of customer/employee/display/storage vehicles to figures noted in the applications. Release of each license is contingent on the town receiving fully executed manufacturer agreements.
Board members flagged potential future traffic impacts tied to an Otis/Route 9 redesign and encouraged Asbury to engage with the town on that project. Counsel said Asbury will rely on local management and that many existing managers are likely to remain.
The board moved and seconded to approve the three conditional licenses and recorded a 4‑0 vote in favor.
