Westborough AFC appoints new leadership; library reopens temporarily at Bay State Commons

At its June 2 meeting, the Town of Westborough Advisory Finance Committee selected new leadership and received updates on liaison work and the town library.
The committee voted to appoint Jane Clapp as chair and Josh Brandt as vice chair; members discussed splitting chair duties to make the role more manageable. “Jane Clapp has agreed to take on the duties,” a committee member said when proposing the appointment; Brandt was recorded as vice chair.
A liaison reported the town library reopened in a temporary location at Bay State Commons, 1500 Union Street, and described the move as well organized. Construction work at the library’s permanent site will begin shortly, the committee was told.
Committee members and staff also discussed work on a standardized, explainable methodology to select comparison communities for benchmarking municipal budgets. Planned factors include proximity, population, average home price, the share of the levy that is residential, and school budget share. Staff said they will present the methodology and the proposed comparison set to the Select Board, AFC and School Committee and seek public feedback before rolling out the new model at the fall budget summit.
The meeting adjourned after confirming the next scheduled AFC meeting (June 23, if needed) and expressing thanks to Westboro TV for recording and streaming the meeting.
