Westborough introduces seven new police officers and approves updated job descriptions

The Westborough Select Board on May 27 introduced seven recently hired members of the Westborough Police Department and approved administrative updates to police job descriptions.
Deputy Chief Steve Tonkinson introduced the new hires and asked Lieutenant Cliff Luceen to present brief biographies for each officer. Luceen described educational and training backgrounds for Bryce Miranda, Ashlyn Mercier, Maximilian Cleveland, Shay Sweeney, Matthew Faria, Patrick Scanlon and Olivia Stedham, and thanked family members in attendance.
Assistant town staff presented marked-up job descriptions for all uniformed positions, saying the changes were mostly minor edits to reflect current POST requirements and terminology (for example, replacing “horse” with “bicycle” for patrol equipment references). After brief questions from board members about numbering and an FSLA status field, a member moved to approve the amendments to the job descriptions for patrol officer, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, deputy chief and chief as presented. The motion was seconded and approved as recorded.
The board and department leaders said they continue to recruit to fill vacancies and that updated job descriptions will better align hiring and training with state standards.
The board did not identify any further policy changes during the vote; the amendments are administrative updates rather than changes to sworn duties.
