Miss Mitchell emphasized the initiative’s focus on community-building and education: "Our history is resilient. Our history is deep. Our history is profound," she said, adding that the programs are open to people of all races and ages. The presenters said the task force will provide a calendar cover and deliver the consolidated calendar at the next council meeting.
Organizers also noted partner events and community activities tied to Black History Month, and asked the council and the public to patronize Black-owned businesses as a way to support local economic development.
Next steps: organizers will collect event submissions and provide the consolidated calendar to city leaders at the next meeting.
