Inkster council reappoints Sandra Wiley, approves calendar and grant for firefighter air packs

The Inkster City Council on Jan. 6 moved quickly through routine business, reappointing Sandra Wiley to the Police and Fire Pension Board and approving a series of administrative items including a calendar amendment and authorization for a fire department grant.

Council was informed that the council-appointed seat on the police and fire pension board had expired Dec. 31 and that the pension board had passed a nonbinding resolution recommending Trustee Sandra Wiley for reappointment. A councilmember “made a motion to reappoint commissioner Sandra Wiley to the police and fire pension board,” the record shows; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

The council also approved an amended 2025 meeting calendar correcting the monthly meeting date for Feb. 17, 2025, and voted to adopt a municipal credit and community credit contract for fiscal year 2025. Later in the meeting council members approved a motion authorizing Chief Jason K. to sign a grant agreement to procure new air packs for the fire department; the council passed the authorization by voice vote.

None of the motions recorded in the public minutes included roll-call vote breakdowns; council approved the items by unanimous voice votes. The meeting packet and staff communications noted the pension appointment was a two-year term and that appointees may continue to serve after a term expires until replaced.

Next steps: the clerk will include the pension-board reappointment in the official minutes and the signed grant agreement will be filed with city records when completed.
