Town Moderator praises orderly annual town meeting, suggests multi‑session option

John Reynolds, Westborough’s Town Moderator, opened a debrief on the annual town meeting at the Advisory Finance Committee’s May 12 meeting, praising the committee’s preparation and noting that the meeting completed earlier than in recent years.
Reynolds said voters appreciated the committee’s recommendations and that the town might consider breaking future town meetings into two or more shorter sessions to relieve the demands of a single long session and potentially increase participation. He urged members to share ideas with the Select Board and said he would pass on feedback he collected while meeting with members individually.
Reynolds also noted personnel changes on the committee: Walter agreed to another term but will step down as chair; Jean and Rod declined reappointment. The committee discussed ways to distribute chair duties and planned to address the selection of a new chair and vice chair at a future meeting.
Liaison reports covered next month’s finance-team review of comparable towns, recreation commission updates including an impending dog‑park opening and lifeguard staffing challenges at Lake Chauncey, and an upcoming library move that will close the facility May 15 and aim to reopen in early June at a new location.
The committee approved minutes for March 3, March 6 (as amended) and March 10 and then adjourned.
