Inkster council approves block party, 5K and $1,500 parcel purchase

The Inkster City Council on Aug. 4 approved several agenda items by voice vote, including an event street closure, a community 5K and the purchase of a small vacant parcel.
Council approved a street closure for a back-to-school block party scheduled for Aug. 23, 2025, on Fairwood Street, coordinated by Ruth Jones. The council also approved the 'Don’t Engage in Road Rage' 5K (in-person and virtual) on Aug. 30, 2025, with step-off at 27800 Annapolis Street; Pastor Rick V Sykes Sr. is the event coordinator.
Separately, council voted to purchase a vacant parcel identified as Case LD25-05 on the west side of Middlebelt Road between Glenwood and Hazelwood for $1,500. The parcel is adjacent to Just Try Recovery, a behavioral health outpatient clinic; council discussed the acquisition as supporting expanded services that serve Inkster and surrounding communities.
Each of the three items was moved, seconded and approved on voice votes; the transcript records affirmative 'aye' responses but does not record individual named votes.
What’s next: event organizers should follow up with the clerk’s office and the police and fire departments for permitting logistics and any required street-blocking plans.
