American Legion, Chamber and community groups outline programs and holiday support

Several public presenters used the Nov. 3 council meeting’s public participation period to highlight community programs and services for residents.
Michael Green, representing the American Legion, asked for help reestablishing a local American Legion post and described programs and benefits available to veterans and their families, including an oratorical contest with an application deadline of Dec. 5, scholarships (including trade-focused scholarships), home-repair aid for veterans, and VA ‘aid and attendance’ payments for caregivers. He offered to help residents obtain military records and applications.
Octavia Smith of the Inkster Chamber of Commerce announced free workshops to support small-business owners, including an 'AI for small business' session scheduled for Nov. 10 at the chamber office (26717 Michigan Ave.), and provided chamber contact numbers and the chamber website for further resources. Other public speakers, including organizers from Goodfellows and local performance groups, requested support for holiday fundraisers and described upcoming events; the council acknowledged these efforts and extended staff thanks to police, fire and DPS for recent work.
The council also reiterated plans for a Thanksgiving hot-meal distribution (free meals delivered or picked up) and encouraged residents to contact local organizers if they need a meal.
