The city treasurer provided a water billing update at the Oct. 6 council meeting, saying Inkster is installing new water meters and temporarily running two billing systems. As a result, the current mailing of bills covers July and August and replaces bills missed in the prior month.
The treasurer told residents the city would not assess late penalties or fees associated with the delayed bills and encouraged residents to schedule appointments for meter installation, which the treasurer said is provided at no cost and takes about 15–20 minutes. The treasurer said the city expects to complete the majority of conversions by the end of the year.
Council members thanked staff for the update; no vote or formal action was taken on billing at the meeting.
