Council approves $81,188 Wayne County grant and extension for Booker Dozier Recreation Center

The Inkster City Council on Sept. 2 authorized the administration to enter into a grant agreement with Wayne County for $81,188 from the Parks Millage Fund to continue improvements at Booker Dozier Recreation Center.
A council member described the funds as intended to "enhance the facilities, safety, accessibility, and functional functionality" of the center to better serve the community. The grant was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Council also approved a county-approved extension that moves the deadline to expend the previously awarded Dozier funds to Sept. 30, 2026. Staff said the extension was requested to provide additional time to complete the work; the extension motion was moved, seconded and passed by voice vote.
Both approvals allow the city to proceed with necessary upgrades and to meet Wayne County’s grant requirements before final closeout.
