The Select Board approved a motion to include an executive director position for the MetroWest Regional Emergency Communication Center in Westborough’s classification plan, contingent on state 9-1-1 grant approval to cover salary and benefits.
Town staff said the position would initially be a Westborough employee to allow benefits and retirement coverage to be arranged and to ensure the new director could lead project design and staffing. Chief Patrick Purcell and other regional chiefs supported the classification and job description. Town staff explained that once the regional district is fully stood up, the position would transfer off Westborough’s payroll and into the district.
Board members approved the job description and the classification amendment by voice vote, with the understanding that all costs would be covered by state grant funding and that the position’s long-term status would be revisited when the district is operational.
Next steps: chief Purcell will work with state 9-1-1 to amend grants as needed; town HR will add the position to the classification plan and prepare for recruitment upon grant approval.
