Duran said the program portfolio includes Movies in the Park (four nights), Earth Day (with giveaways and an electric-bike raffle) and an Outdoor Fun Festival scheduled for June 6; he estimated the cost to run six events at roughly $20,000 and said the city’s event model relies on sponsors and volunteer labor.
City staff and councilors reviewed past city support, saying prior-year allocations included about $10,800 for the Outdoor Fun Festival and $5,000 through the Community Enhancement Program for Movies in the Park. Staff said a budget line of about $12,000 currently exists for festivals and asked that a funding decision be made by the council’s first February meeting so organizers can finalize plans.
Council response and next steps: Councilors urged coordination with the library and other partners, encouraged organizers to document attendee ZIP codes and sponsorships to support future budgeting, and asked staff to confirm the exact budget line. Council did not approve new funding on Jan. 5; the item will return for a budget decision.
