Marina committee formed and FAA-funded airport rehab will require 90-day closure, county says

Nancy Ward briefed the committee on two infrastructure items that could affect Scappoose residents and local businesses.
On the marina, Ward said siltation in the Multnomah Channel has increased and the county formed a committee to plan how the marina will adapt. She announced the committee’s first meeting at the Port Office on Nov. 3 at 11 a.m., open to the public and available by Zoom. Ward said dredging frequency has increased and that the committee will explore viable long-term options for boat access, floating homes and commercial uses.
Ward then described an FAA-funded rehabilitation project at the Scappoose Airport that will include major resurfacing and electrical upgrades. "I think I have mentioned that we will need to be closing the airport for 90 days next year," she said, adding that the FAA will only fund the work if it is done in the shortest single-block time the agency approves. Ward said the FAA covers most of the cost (she cited roughly 96% of the project) and that alternate approaches (night work, staggered phases) would extend the schedule and increase county costs. Committee members asked about tenant notice and mitigation; Ward said staff have been notifying tenants for months and will continue outreach to minimize disruption.
No formal vote was recorded; Ward asked for community input and invited residents to the Nov. 3 marina meeting.
