Interns present historic-marker project; city agrees to collaborate on installations

Representatives of a Columbia County internship and workforce program presented a tourism and branding project in which interns designed and fabricated metal historic markers for county sites, including three markers proposed for Scappoose locations (Watts Home, the peace candle and a waterways marker featuring a Chapman Landing photograph).
The presenter explained the markers are approximately 14 by 16 inches, feature a silhouette design with a dye‑sublimated aluminum background, include QR codes that connect to a Columbia County app and were developed under a workforce grant from Northwest OregonWorks. Public Works staff confirmed the markers may be installed on city property, that the city would not have its logo on the panels, and that crews could assist with installation once council provided support. Council expressed general enthusiasm and asked staff to coordinate placement, safety and maintenance considerations.
No formal motion was required; staff will coordinate logistics and report back as needed.
