Cobb County to correct wastewater-rate letter; committee previews larger reserves and new contract revenue

Speaker 5 updated the committee on wastewater charges, saying Cobb County discovered a misprint in the county letter and will take corrected paperwork to its board on March 25. "They identified the mistake and said they will make a correction, and that correction will be approved at their March meeting," Speaker 5 said; because of that, Speaker 5 said the committee does not need to act now and will revisit the item in April.
During the same meeting staff and members discussed stronger-than-expected year-end settlement receipts and incoming contract revenue. Unidentified Speaker 1 said, "We think we're going to get probably over $7,000,000 on the year end settlement." Staff described a Vantage contract that is expected to start next fiscal year and could increase overall revenue by more than $20 million in some scenarios, enabling increased capital spending—particularly for water and sewer—and consideration of employee retention measures.
Committee members emphasized that the wastewater rate numbers and final dollar impacts remain pending Cobb County approval; staff cautioned that the final budget and transfers will be reflected in the May board review.
