The O'Fallon Veterans Commission unanimously moved through routine business on Nov. 17, approving the October minutes, reviewing recent Veterans Day activities and receiving updates on signage and operations.
Presiding officer called for a motion to accept the October minutes; Sheldon Hartsfield moved to approve and Commissioner Judy Northcutt seconded. A verbal 'Aye' was recorded and the presiding officer declared the motion carried.
Members reviewed the Veterans Day ceremony, describing it as "very smooth" despite cold, windy conditions. The presiding officer noted a trike rider from Festus performed the national anthem and provided historical background; other participants praised the keynote, rifle team and color guard.
Connan reported that public works and Rob Layman's crew are installing POW/MIA signs and Purple Heart City signs at multiple locations, including city-limit and population signs. Connan said about a dozen signs should be in place around the city when installation is complete.
Other operational notes: the presiding officer read a treasury report stating no movement in the account; the veterans office is open at City Hall Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
