Snohomish County Council elects Dunn as chair; Low chosen as vice chair after Peterson bid fails

At its Jan. 6 administrative session the Snohomish County Council unanimously elected Councilmember Dunn as chair and later selected Councilmember Low as vice chair after an earlier nomination of Councilmember Peterson failed 2–3.
Snohomish County Council members elected Councilmember Dunn as council chair and Councilmember Low as vice chair during the administrative session Tuesday, Jan. 6.
The council approved Dunn's nomination for chair by voice vote, 50. After Dunn assumed the gavel, Dunn nominated Councilmember Peterson for vice chair; that motion failed on a 2to3 tally. Council then moved to nominate Councilmember Low for vice chair and approved that nomination 50.
Five members were present for the votes. The council opened the meeting with instructions for public comment and roll call, and a clerk's report noted no public commenters during the session.
The leadership elections will determine placement of members on outside boards and committees for 2026, a staff notice earlier in the meeting said. The council recessed the administrative session and adjourned until an 11:00 a.m. committee hearing later the same day.
