Snohomish County adopts parking-code amendments to align with state law, council approves amendment and ordinance 5-0

Snohomish County Council on Jan. 7 adopted ordinance 25-084 updating the county’s minimum parking regulations for residential and commercial development to align with recent state law changes and to simplify application of parking standards.
Council staff Ryan Hambrick said the amendments revise chapters addressing parking rates, design standards and configuration, simplifying minimum parking rate requirements into new tables and figures and allowing reduced required parking for some dwelling types to support higher residential density and greater reliance on public transit. Hambrick referenced recent state legislation (staff cited Senate Bill 6015) and RCW 36.70A.622 as the statutory context.
No members of the public provided testimony. Councilmember Peterson thanked staff for quickly implementing the ordinance following the state changes; the council approved an amendment (referred to as amendment sheet 1) by voice vote, 5-0, and then adopted the underlying ordinance by roll call, 5-0. The meeting then adjourned.
Staff did not provide a detailed fiscal analysis at the hearing nor a schedule for when the new tables and standards will be applied to pending permits; those implementation details are expected to be handled administratively and appear in the council file.
