Snohomish County Council on Jan. 7 approved ordinance 25-085, authorizing the county executive to sign an interlocal agreement with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to allow WDFW to access, operate and maintain hunting amenities at a property commonly known as Chinook Marsh in the Snohomish River Estuary.
Council staff Ryan Hambrick told the council that the county previously acquired the Chinook Marsh property and that the location is within a county-designated no-shooting area except for shotgun shooting during legal open hunting seasons under county code. Hambrick cited RCW 39.34 as the statute governing interlocal agreements. If approved, Hambrick said the interlocal document would be transmitted by WDFW for the county executive’s signature. No members of the public provided testimony during the hearing. The council moved to approve the ordinance and adopted it by roll call, 5-0.
The interlocal delegates operational responsibility for specified on-site hunting amenities to WDFW while Snohomish County maintains land ownership; the council did not read a full allocation of maintenance responsibilities or funding details into the public record during the hearing.
