The Snohomish County Council unanimously approved Resolution 26-002 on Jan. 13, 2026, declaring Jan. 13 as Korean American Day in Snohomish County. The measure passed following introductions and remarks from Mukilteo City Council member Jason Moon and Consul General Se of the Republic of Korea.
Jason Moon, introduced to the council as a Mukilteo City Council member, said the observance is personal to him and credited his parents' immigration and long hours of work for opportunities he and others have today. "I'm only here because of my parents," Moon said, describing the sacrifices that shaped his family's experience.
Consul General Se addressed the council, thanking Snohomish County for the proclamation and highlighting the role of Korean Americans in local public life, business and cultural exchange. The consul general said the federal government designated Korean American Day in 2005 and Washington state recognized the day in 2007. "In Snohomish County alone, approximately 20,000 Korean Americans call this community home," Consul General Se said.
Council members thanked Moon and the consul general for attending. A motion to approve Resolution 26-002 was made and seconded; the council voted unanimously in favor and the chair confirmed the passage. The chamber recessed briefly for photos after the proclamation.
No further action on the resolution was recorded; the council proceeded with the remainder of its administrative agenda.
