Three staff members from Heron Point Senior Living — Justin, Kayla and Cooper — addressed the council during public comment to describe a yearlong effort to form a union after Mosaic purchased the facility in January 2024. Justin said staff voted overwhelmingly to unionize and that Mosaic has declined to bargain on proposals related to safety, equipment, staffing and pay. “Mosaic… for at least the month of November, refused to bargain with us, regarding matters of safety, equipment, staffing, pay,” Justin said.
The group said they formed the union after concerns about treatment of staff and residents and asked the council and community to call Mosaic and encourage bargaining. City staff accepted the speakers’ contact information and the mayor offered to forward it so the city can respond.
No Mosaic representative spoke at the meeting and councilors did not take formal action. The exchange was recorded as public comment; staff said they would route the contact details and any requested response through the city recorder’s office.
